Both the Longview and Vancouver campuses of the Humane Society for Southwest Washington are over capacity for cats, so the nonprofit is waiving cat adoption fees for felines 6 months and older this weekend.

There will be no adoption fees from Friday through Sunday, according to a Tuesday press release from the organization.

The nonprofit reports it has received 23% more cats and kittens at its two sites this year compared to the same time last year, for an annual total of 2,969 so far.

Reasons for the increase include the organization receiving more than 50 cats in July from an abandoned Battle Ground RV, and 32 cats and kittens from an unattended RV in which temperatures were over 100 degrees, the press release states.
