CHARLOTTE -- Wisconsin football is planning far ahead, and the plans are big.

UW Athletics announced Wednesday that Badgers will open the 2031 season against Virginia Tech in the Duke's Mayo Classic at Charlotte's Bank of America Stadium, home of the Carolina Panthers. The game is set for Aug. 30.

The Badgers and Hokies were supposed to face off in Blacksburg, Va. on Sept. 12, 2031. Now, the Badgers will make their first trip to Charlotte since beating Wake Forest in the 2020 Duke's Mayo Bowl.

Barring a bowl game between the two programs in the next six years, this will mark the first meeting between the Badgers and Hokies. Virginia Tech is set to visit Camp Randall Stadium in 2032.
