BELLEVILLE — A Mascoutah man was charged Tuesday in an August hit-and-run death of a pedestrian in Belleville.

The St. Clair County State's Attorney charged Robert J. Wedig, 74, with failure to report an accident involving death. The charge is a felony.

Emily Johnson, 33, was the pedestrian fatally struck on Aug. 21. Johnson lived in the 500 block of Augusta Street in Mascoutah.

She was hit about 3:30 a.m. Aug. 21 in the 900 block of South Green Mount Road. Police said Johnson died at a hospital.

By that afternoon, Belleville police said they had located the vehicle and taken a suspect into custody.
