A 95-year-old woman was arrested and charged with murder after using part of a wheelchair to bludgeon a fellow resident at a Brooklyn, New York, senior housing facility to death, police said.

In addition to murder, Galina Smirnova was charged Tuesday with weapon possession, police said, for the death of 89-year-old Nina Kravtsov at the Seagate Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Coney Island on Sunday.

Smirnova was arraigned Wednesday and remanded. Prosecutors had asked for a mental health examination, which her lawyer opposed. The judge recommended Smirnova be held at Bellevue.
