ABC News chief national correspondent Matt Gutman is clarifying remarks he made about Charlie Kirk’s alleged killer, Tyler Robinson.

“Yesterday I tried to underscore the jarring contrast between this cold blooded assassination of Charlie Kirk — a man who dedicated his life to public dialogue — and the personal, disturbing texts read aloud by the Utah County Attorney at the press conference,” Gutman, 47, shared via Instagram on Wednesday, September 17. “I deeply regret that my words did not make that clear.”

The journalist — who reports for all ABC News broadcasts and platforms, including World News Tonight With David Muir, Good Morning America and The View — also condemned the shooting of Kirk.
