CLEVELAND — The competency of De'Lawnte Hardy, the 26-year-old accused of killing Cleveland police officer Jamieson Ritter and his own grandmother, Beatrice Porter, last year, was again considered at a hearing in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court on Wednesday.

Judge Ashley Kilbane ruled that the deadline for Hardy to be restored to competency has been extended by four months, due to the fact that Hardy was not taking medication during a period between Dec. 1, 2024 and March 31, 2025.

"Everybody said he (Hardy) requires medication in order to be restored to competency and if the state has the obligation to restore the defendant to competency via treatment, it must have the time and ability to do so," Kilbane announced in her ruling.
