Manchester United tasted Premier League and European glory in 2008, but only after some silent treatment from Sir Alex Ferguson.

The legendary manager was renowned for his high standards, and Red Devils icon Wayne Rooney has revealed this was certainly the case after an ill-fated FA Cup quarter-final that year.

While United enjoyed a memorable double in the 2007/08 campaign, at one point even more silverware looked to be on the cards.

In the 1998/99 season, Ferguson led his side to an historic treble by winning the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup.

And the Scot narrowly missed out on recreating the feat nearly a decade later, when United again tasted domestic and European glory, but came up short in the FA Cup.
