ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WPTA) - An 81-year-old Fort Wayne man has been identified as the person killed in a police-action shooting in New Haven last week.

William Joseph Peters died from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Allen County Coroner’s Office. His death has been ruled a homicide.

Peters is the 29th person to die by homicide in Allen County this year.

Indiana State Police Public Information Officer Wes Rowlader says local and state police agencies were called to Irving and Schwartz Roads just before 9:00 p.m. Friday on reports of a suspicious person in a vehicle.

Rowlader says responding officers discovered Peters was armed with a gun and called in for reinforcement. It is believed he made an aggressive movement and officers from the Fort Wayne Police Department, Allen Count
