(WHTM) — The Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General provided an update regarding August's cyber incident.

The Office of the Attorney General was the victim of a ransomware attack in August that impaired functions of the agency and prevented some of the staff and prosecutors from accessing archived emails, files, and internal systems, according to SpotlightPA.

According to the AG's office, the incident was a result of a malicious actor encrypting certain files in an attempt to have the office make a payment to restore its operations.

The investigation remains ongoing. The AG's office noted that the nature of the investigation limits their ability to share specific details, and they are still learning what information was involved.
