Murder charge after prisoner is found dead in his cell

A prison inmate has been found dead in his cell in suspicious circumstances.

A 39-year-old West Country man has been charged with murder after the death of an inmate at HMP Exeter on Monday, September 15.

James Desborough, of Lower Sticker, Cornwall, and also an inmate at HMP Exeter, has been charged with the murder of 65-year-old Steven Kempster.

Desborough is currently in police custody.

Police received a report from the prison that Mr Kempster had been found dead in his cell at around 5.40am on Monday, September 15. His next-of-kin have been informed.

Desborough is due to appear before Exeter Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, September 18, reports CornwallLive .
