LAS VEGAS ( FOX5 ) — An interim city council member has been chosen to fill the seat left by the exiting Victoria Seaman .

According to a social media post, the Las Vegas City Council appointed Kara Kelley as the new interim council member for Ward 2.

Kelley addressed the council Wednesday as one of three finalists , sharing her history, which she called a “quintessential Las Vegas story.”

“My family is much like families who came here at this time and come here today. They were looking for opportunity,” Kelley said. “They found it in the service industry, in the hospitality industry, as maids, as bartenders, as waiters and waitresses or servers.”

She noted that she was a graduate of Valley High School and earned degrees from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
