DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A nearly $20 million contract has been approved by the Montgomery County Board of County Commissioners (BCC) for building a new Behavioral Health Unit at the county jail on Tuesday, Sept 16.

Incarcerated people face a higher statistical need for mental health and substance use disorder services. This new Behavioral Health Unit will be designed to address these issues directly and provide a safer environment for the incarcerated and staff members. Some jail space will be repurposed to provide more detox, suicide prevention treatment, medical care areas and create an enhanced intake space.
