An unidentified man is dead after he fell into a popular, but dangerous, sinkhole on the Oregon coast, authorities said.

Just after 3:30 p.m. local time on Monday, Sept. 15, emergency responders were dispatched to Thor’s Well near Cape Perpetua following reports of a person who fell into the water and “appeared to be drowning,” the Yachats Rural Fire Protection District said in a statement.
