A new technology along Canberra's roads that could stop wildlife from getting hit by vehicles is one step closer to being installed after hundreds of people signed a petition in support.

The petition to trial virtual fencing in Canberra has been signed by more than 1300 people and was tabled in the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday, September 17.

The petition calls on the ACT government to implement the virtual fencing trial along Erindale Drive between Farrer Ridge and Wanniassa Hills to reduce kangaroo-vehicle collisions and, if effective, expand the trial to other known hot spots.

Lead petitioner Aisha Bottrill, who drives on Erindale Drive twice a day, said the Canberra community had rallied around the cause.
