The Director of Public Prosecutions, who warned her underfunded office was unable to properly prepare for all court matters, has been provided temporary support to prepare the office's next budget bid.

Victoria Engel SC said the additional support, equivalent to a 0.6 full-time position for three months, was welcome but urgent funding was still needed to fix a long-standing deficit.

"Since estimates, the DPP has continued to raise concerns with the [Justice and Community Safety] Directorate about the funding situation, and the immediacy of the need," Ms Engel said.

Attorney-General Tara Cheyne said she was working to find more permanent funding to support the ACT's prosecutors and reduce reliance on a volatile fund drawn from confiscated assets.
