LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- The Las Vegas City Council on Wednesday appointed former Las Vegas CEO President Kara Kelley to be the interim city councilwoman for Ward 2.

According to a social post from the city, Kelley will be sworn in on September 30 to fill Victoria Seaman's seat. She resigned to take a job with the Trump administration.

"I am honored to be amongst this group and humbled by your vote of confidence in me. And I stand ready to help, and with ears open," Kelley said on Wednesday.

Dozens of applicants applied for the position. Kelley was one of three finalists who gave presentations at the meeting. Las Vegas Planning Commission member Serena Kasama and Tom Warden, senior vice president for Howard Hughes Corp., were the other finalists.
