PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Gov. Katie Hobbs has ordered that flags at all state buildings be lowered to half-staff in honor of two firefighters who were killed in a crash earlier this week in eastern Arizona.

Timber Mesa Fire District firefighters Brenna Kulikowski, 31, and Damon Thompson, 21, were in an ambulance on State Route 260 heading back to Show Low on Sunday night when a passenger vehicle coming the other direction crossed the center line and hit them head-on. Both were pronounced dead at the scene, as well as the driver of the other vehicle, whose name has not yet been released.

Officials say Kulikowski had been with the department for three years, while Thompson was coming up on one year.
