Multiple brush fires erupted off of Highway 87 in San Jose on Tuesday night, according to the fire department.

The fires were reported at about 11 p.m. between Hillsdale and Curtner avenues, fire officials said.

Traffic on the highway was diverted for a time.

There was a car fire in the same area, but firefighters are still not saying for certain what sparked the grass fire near Curtner Avenue in the Communications Hill area.

The exact number of acres burned is still unknown.
