An Oregon police officer has been dismissed from his position after admitting to soliciting sex from a woman who was intoxicated and had just crashed her car. David McVeigh, 35, from Estacada, entered a no-contest plea to first-degree misconduct related to the incident that occurred in 2019.
On November 24, 2019, McVeigh responded to a 911 call about a drunk driver. After arriving at the scene, he took advantage of the situation by giving the woman a ride to her apartment. During the ride, he asked her for oral sex. The woman, believing she was making a deal to avoid a ticket, complied with his request.
In 2021, the same woman was arrested on unrelated domestic violence charges. During that investigation, she disclosed to authorities that she had a previous sexual encounter with an on-duty officer named "David."
The case took a turn in 2022 when McVeigh was accused of stalking a woman in a casino parking lot during a police training event. This raised red flags for the Milwaukie Police Department. Then-Chief Luke Strait described McVeigh's behavior as "immediately concerning" given the earlier allegations, leading to his placement on leave.
Further investigation revealed that officers were able to locate the crash victim, who still had McVeigh's personal cell phone number. Dispatch records supported her account of the events, which led to formal charges against him.
In 2023, McVeigh was fired from the Milwaukie Police Department. Although he pleaded guilty, he was allowed to keep a clean record if he completes 150 hours of community service by 2026. He has permanently surrendered his law enforcement badge.
