A Long Island man has been convicted of attempted murder for a 2023 Freeport bar shooting that left a young father paralyzed from the neck down, prosecutors announced Wednesday.

Tiray Clemmons, 34, of Hempstead, opened fire on a crowd at a Nautical Mile bar in Freeport on the evening of July 12, 2023, after being thrown out amid a verbal altercation with the manager, according to Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly.

The shooting seriously wounded two people. One of the victims, a 23-year-old security guard and father of a young girl, was shot in the back, severely damaging his spinal cord.

Clemmons became “furious” after he was thrown out of Agua on the Mile and denied reentry, Donnelly said, adding that he “wanted payback.”
