The Israeli government is facing demands to allow students who are trapped in Gaza and have won places at Scottish universities to travel to the UK.

Shayma, 32, has a fully funded scholarship for a PhD in English Literature at Edinburgh University , and is one of around 40 students who are due to study in Scotland and 102 across the UK, reports The Sunday Mail.

Shaymaa, who taught at the Islamic University of Gaza until it was bombed early on in the war, said: “We still don’t have any updates regarding evacuation.

"We are just anxiously waiting for confirmation from the government that we will be evacuated on a specific date.

“I’m from east of Khan Yunis, and we have been displaced in Al-Mawasi since May 19.

“Everyone in Gaza lives each moment as if it’s our last, our last moment
