KINGSTON, N.Y. — County legislators were called on Tuesday to memorialize the late right-wing podcaster and activist Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated on Sept. 10 in Utah.

It was an unusual addition to the Legislature’s monthly “In Memory Of” segment of the meeting, where lawmakers recognize those individuals who have ties to the county who died in the preceding month.

After the names of the 15 area residents who had recently died were read by Legislator Greg McCollough, D-Kingston, Legislator Herbert Litts asked to add Kirk, whom, Litts, R-Lloyd, said, “was an advocate for spirited debate without violence.”
