PORTLAND, Oregon — Oregon, Washington, California and Hawaii have released a new set of vaccine recommendations under the West Coast Health Alliance . The four states formed the bloc earlier this month in response to recent turmoil at the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other federal agencies under the leadership of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

The Food and Drug Administration approved the latest formulation of the COVID-19 vaccines in late August, but with stricter guidance that only recommended vaccination for people with medical risk factors that make them more vulnerable to COVID-19. Guidance in prior years emphasized vaccination for vulnerable groups but recommended it for everyone.
