In the United States, approximately 135 people die by suicide each day. For Colleen Storey, that statistic isn’t just a number. It’s a name, a face and a story.

Storey, supervisor of PeaceHealth’s hospice and holistic care team, also facilitates its Survivors of Suicide Support Group, a twice-a-month bereavement meeting in Vancouver for people who have lost loved ones to suicide.

In honor of National Suicide Prevention Awareness month in September, the group’s 20 members created a quilt that honors family members who have died. Almost three years in the making, the quilt is now on display in the lobby of PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center’s Firstenburg Tower, 400 N.E. Mother Joseph Place.
