The temperature of Okanagan Lake is remarkably warm for mid-September, with a thermometer on the W.R. Bennett bridge reading a maximum of 22.7 C on Tuesday.

That compares to just 20.3 C offshore of the beaches in San Diego, California, and a frightful 18.7 C in the seas off Lisbon, Portugal.

In fact, the temperature of Okanagan Lake is only a smidge below the 23.3 C temperature recorded Wednesday in the Mediterranean waters of Nice, France.

Okanagan beaches certainly aren’t as crowded as they are in high summer, but for those suntanning and swimming in mid-September that’s part of the appeal.
