OTTAWA - Members of Parliament held a moment of silence today in the House of Commons to honor the late Ken Dryden, a celebrated hockey player and former politician. Dryden, known for his time as a goaltender with the Montreal Canadiens, also served as a member of Parliament and a Liberal cabinet minister.

Following the moment of silence, Prime Minister Mark Carney praised Dryden as a national hero and a personal idol. Carney shared that Dryden inspired him to become a goalie. He noted that some of his colleagues had the privilege of working with Dryden during his tenure as the representative for York Centre.

Several MPs from different parties also paid their respects. John Brassard from the Conservative Party, Martin Champoux from the Bloc Québécois, and Leah Gazan from the NDP all stood to honor Dryden's legacy.

Dryden passed away earlier this month at the age of 78 after a battle with cancer. His contributions to both sports and politics have left a lasting impact on many.
