IOWA CITY — Iowa faced little resistance as it raced down the field and built a 20-0 lead in the first quarter against UMass last Saturday.

The Hawkeyes ultimately won 47-7 and posted their highest yardage total (435) since beating Troy (462) in week three last season.

While it did not appear to be much of a challenge, the win over the Minutemen may have been the best possible way for Iowa (2-1, 0-0 Big Ten) to prepare for its Big Ten opener at Rutgers (3-0, 0-0 Big Ten).

For a struggling offense, the game offered the Hawkeyes a chance to erupt in front of a home crowd and gain confidence going into Big Ten play.
