CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - A man was charged after a pedestrian died on Monday, weeks after he was struck during a south Charlotte hit-and-run.

Mark Hendel, 52, was identified as the person hit in the crash. He died on Monday, Sept. 15, from injuries he sustained during the collision, reports stated .

Records showed the suspected driver, 59-year-old Ioannis Vlahos, was charged with felony hit-and-run inflicting death, no operator’s license, and no liability insurance.

What happened

The collision reportedly happened around 10:15 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 24, along Old Pineville Road near Nations Crossing Road.

Police said when they arrived, they found Hendel had been hit by a car and was lying in the road with his wheelchair farther down the street.
