A bridging loan to secure the short-term future of Salford Red Devils has ‘not materialised,’ according to Salford mayor Paul Dennett.

Mr Dennett was asked to give an update on the club and the city’s Community Stadium which is owned by the council, and where Salford Reds play.

The rugby league club is facing a series of problems, not least a winding up petition from HMRC which was recently adjourned in the high court.

The club’s owners said in August that they were looking to get a bridging loan to ‘restore [the] immediate financial stability’ of the team after financial difficulties.
