An attorney for one of the defendants in the now-dismissed “false electors” case claims Democratic Attorney General Dana Nessel brought the charges in an attempt to interfere in the 2024 election.

Nicholas Somberg, attorney for former Michigan GOP Co-Chair Meshawn Maddock, said the 16 people charged in the case weren’t just regular people but “Trump’s main advocates, fighters, volunteers from the beginning” and that the timing of the charges was politically motivated.
