A man tried to kill a woman by throwing a pipe bomb into a Southeast Portland home last month, prosecutors say. The man’s alleged motive: to erase a debt for illegal drugs.

Travis Parry, 49, told investigators he had recently been released from prison and owed his drug dealer several thousand dollars, according to the probable cause affidavit filed after Parry’s arrest on Sept. 11. The dealer told Parry there was a way he could get out of his debt and introduced him to his cousin.

The dealer’s cousin “explained he wanted the woman in the home dead, but cared less about the man” who also lived in the house, according to court records. The cousin gave Parry a bag with a gun and pipe bomb, Parry told investigators.
