EUREKA, Ill. – A southeastern Illinois man alleged to have traveled to Woodford County to attempt to have sex with a minor has been released from custody.
The Woodford County State’s Attorney’s Office says conditions and restrictions were placed on 32-year-old Matthew Cornes of Lawrenceville after his pretrial detention hearing on Wednesday. Those conditions were not explained.
Cornes was arrested on Monday after allegedly traveling to Germantown Hills in an attempt to have sexual relations with someone he believed to be a 14-year-old girl.
In a statement, State’s Attorney Erik Gibson says while he cannot disagree with the ruling based on the current state of the law. But he blasted the state’s Pretrial Fairness Act.
