INWOOD - A trend emerged during Tuesday night's volleyball match between Hedgesville and Musselman.
In all three sets, the Eagles built a sizeable lead, only to have the Applemen make a run late to get back in it. In each case, Hedgesville held on for the set win, earning a 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-23) victory over Musselman.
"We knew this was going to be a serve, serve-receive battle - whatever team could do those two things better and kind of stay in system there. We definitely focused on that," Hedgesville coach Allison Whitford said.
In the first set, the Eagles (19-3-1) earned a 25-20 win, building as much as a nine-point lead late - at 23-14 and 24-15. The Applemen went on a 5-0 run to get back to within 24-20, but Hedgesville earned the last point on a kill by Grace Lathwell.
