BOISE, Idaho — Fall is nearly here, but for those looking to celebrate the few days of Summer, they should avoid the CJ Strike Reservoir near Mountain Home, as it is under a health advisory.
The Department of Health and Welfare issued a health advisory based on findings from the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality.
The advisory, which initially covered only the Cottonwood Creek Boat Ramp and the nearby area on the Bruneau Arm since Aug. 12, now covers the full reservoir after officials confirmed another bloom north of CJ Strike Dam.
Recent water samples from the reservoir showed high levels of toxin-producing cyanobacteria, according to the health department. The toxins, known as cyanotoxins, can harm people, pets and livestock.
