PORT MATILDA, Pa. (WTAJ) — A small community in Centre County is celebrating 100 years this weekend.
Port Matilda, about twenty minutes south of State College, is having a centennial celebration. Starting as a lumber town, it even has connections to Mister Rogers – his grandfather, Fred McFeely, had a brickyard there.
"We're still here, and we're celebrating our little town," Mayor Ida Lively said.
The celebration is Sunday, Sept. 21, starting at 1 p.m. in Port Matilda's Community Park, which is along Park St.
Centre County's commissioners also proclaimed Sept. 21 as Port Matilda Centennial Celebration Day at their recent meeting.
