Harris County District Clerk Marilyn Burgess on Tuesday voted in favor of giving herself a 45% salary increase. County commissioners will now be charged with giving her raise final approval.

The vote happened during a Tuesday meeting of the salary grievance committee — a board consisting of Harris County residents and elected officials, including Burgess and Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. Burgess, whose current salary is just over $179,000, originally asked the committee to approve an increase to $295,000.
