ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A mother accused of abusing her three-month-old made her first appearance on Wednesday. The infant's parents, 26-year-old Jessica Brusuelas and 23-year-old Johnathan Castillo, are facing charges for child abuse. Court documents said the infant suffered a fractured skull, multiple brain hemorrhages, and severe bruising, injuries police said are consistent with ongoing abuse. The baby is currently in the hospital.

Brusuelas claims Castillo has been using drugs and would regularly beat the baby, their four-year-old child, and herself. The older child is now in the custody of the New Mexico Children, Youth, and Families Department. Castillo is expected to make his first appearance on Thursday.
