IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - During a meeting on Wednesday, the Iowa Board of Regents discussed the proposal to approve a 26 member Advisory Council for the University of Iowa’s new Center for Intellectual Freedom.

The school would teach students about historical ideas and texts that shape American society.

Iowa U-S Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks has proposed naming the new center after Charlie Kirk. Miller-Meeks says the Center for Intellectual Freedom has a mission that matches Kirk’s legacy.

The Advisory Council is responsible for creating by-laws, and conducting a national search to hire a director for the Center. Right now, the Board of Regents has allocated a $1 million starting budget for the center.
