NORMAN — All eyes will be on John Mateer and Jackson Arnold on Saturday afternoon, and there’s a fascinating juxtaposition between OU’s current quarterback and its former passer, who’s now at Auburn: Mateer is the anti-Arnold, in a sense.

Arnold played for Texas High School powerhouse Denton Guyer; Mateer for bottom dweller Little Elm. Arnold had scholarship offers from big name Power Four programs; almost all interest in Mateer came from FCS schools. Arnold beat Mateer in high school, yet, to date, Mateer’s development in college has been more promising than Arnold’s.

But there’s another quarterback who figures prominently into the showdown Saturday between the No. 11 Sooners and No. 22 Tigers. For as much as Mateer is a Bizzarro World Arnold
