DETROIT — After a positive bullpen session on Monday, Detroit Tigers right hander Kyle Finnegan is set to make a rehab appearance with Triple-A Toledo on Thursday, manager A.J. Hinch told reporters Wednesday.

Finnegan, 34, has been out since Sept. 1 with a mild right adductor strain but is nearing his return, joining the Mud Hens in Iowa City to throw an inning of live ball.

Given how brief Finnegan’s absence has been, it’s possible he may only need one rehab appearance before rejoining the major-league club.

“I’m going to attack the rehab one day at a time. I’m feeling really confident about where I’m at already, so I’m going to trust the plan and expect to throw a few more games in the regular season and be ready for postseason,” Finnegan said Sept. 5.
