BEAUMONT, Texas — Shilo Platts, a candidate for Jefferson County Republican Party chairman, will deliver Ten Commandments posters to the Beaumont Independent School District for display in every classroom, fulfilling a new state requirement.
The delivery is scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19, at the Beaumont ISD Administration Office. The action comes after the Texas Legislature passed a bill this session, signed into law by Gov. Greg Abbott, requiring schools to visibly display the Ten Commandments.
BISD previously told local news outlets it would comply with the law if posters were donated. Platts, a devout Catholic and conservative, stepped in to make that happen.
