As San Francisco city leaders set to work reviewing Mayor Daniel Lurie’s proposal to redraw much of The City’s zoning map, a growing chorus is expressing concerns that the plan to boost housing density lacks a key ingredient: funding for affordable housing.

“We currently do not have a strategy for affordable-housing financing on the west side of town,” said Supervisor Myrna Melgar during Monday’s Land Use and Transportation Committee meeting.

The District 7 supervisor — who represents several of the western neighborhoods that fall within Lurie’s “family zoning” plan — delivered that stark assessment as she presented a resolution intended to start a conversation about how The City might fill in that funding gap.
