A visit to a doctor already can be expensive. Now some patients are facing an additional cost: annual administrative fees of typically $50 to $250 per year just to stay with their doctor.

More private practices are charging what they call administrative fees, on top of copays and deductibles.

“That’s a lot of money that starts to add up,” a News4 producer said.

She got hit with a $50 yearly fee from her gynecologist and a $120 fee from her primary care doctor. When she asked for an explanation, what she was told left her confused.

“It's not covered by your insurance. It's, you know, we need to charge this to stay afloat,” she was told.
