BANGOR -- A local Girl Scout Troop spent the summer working on a project that is supporting their community and the environment.

Troop 1381 is made up of 4th and 5th graders from Bangor schools Mary Snow, Cohen and Fruit Street.

Over the past few months they have been building a multi-purpose pollinator garden outside the Mary Snow School.

The garden will serve as an outdoor learning classroom and the food grown will be donated to a local food bank and the schools' kitchen.

This effort was part of a take action project that earned them a Bronze Award, the highest honor a Girl Scout junior can receive.

"We're getting a Bronze Award, that's a big award for girl scouts and we really just wanted to help the environment," said Girl Scout Genevieve Kasper.
