THE Washington Commanders have moved quickly to replace a recently injured off-season signing.
Deatrich Wise Jr was signed by the franchise in the offseason to bolster the team's options at defensive end.
But they won't be able to call on his services until next year after he suffered a season-ending torn left quadracep in their Week Two loss to the Green Bay Packers .
And the Commanders' brass have moved quickly to replace the crocked Wise Jr.
It was announced on Wednesday that they've re-signed veteran pass rusher Preston Smith.
Smith rejoins the organisation a little over six years after he joined the Packers in free agency.
The 32-year-old was a second-round draft pick by The Commanders in 2015.
