It’s back to school and back to basics for drivers, as the City of Kingston’s “aggressive school zone traffic enforcement” campaign is putting the brakes on unsafe behavior near schools.

Over the first two weeks of the academic year, the Kingston police department’s traffic safety unit has already made 149 vehicle stops, issued 139 tickets, gave 60 verbal warnings, made three arrests, and responded to 13 crashes in school zones, including an accident at J. Watson Bailey middle school on Monday, Sept. 15, when two cars were severely damaged during student drop-off .

Both mayor Steve Noble and police chief Egidio Tinti emphasized that this high-visibility effort is about keeping kids safe and holding drivers accountable.
