A severe thunderstorm warning that includes a forecast for quarter-sized hail and 60 mph winds was issued Wednesday afternoon for the northern parts of El Paso County by the National Weather Service in Pueblo.

The warning for the Monument and Peyton areas, which is in effect until 4:45 p.m., followed several special weather statements for southwest Colorado Springs, Security, Calhan, Woodland Park and Cripple Creek, warning of nickel to quarter-sized hail and winds up to 50 mph, until 4:15 p.m.

In the southern end of the state along the New Mexico border, areas east of Trinidad have a severe thunderstorm warning of golf ball-sized hail, which is in effect until 4:30 p.m.
