A proposed bus rapid transit route along 35th Avenue is planned to have dedicated bus lanes in the center of the street rather than on the side, the result of a public survey.

The information was presented as part of the Phoenix Transportation, Infrastructure and Planning Subcommittee meeting on Wednesday. It was presented for information only, not action, and the subcommittee did not discuss the topic.

Bus rapid transit is a high-capacity service that has a dedicated lane for buses in each direction.

The route will run along 35th Avenue, from Van Buren Avenue to the south and ending at the Thelda Williams Transit Center just south of Peoria Avenue at the former Metrocenter mall, which is being redeveloped into a mixed-use project called The Metropolitan.
