SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
Sixth grade students from Phoebe Hearst Elementary School in East Sacramento did not go to class Wednesday. The kids instead walked out.
They demonstrated along with their parents on behalf of Jeanine Rupert, a now-former sixth grade teacher.
Although Rupert is no longer a Phoebe Hearst staff member, according to the Sacramento City Unified School District, she is still employed with SCUSD .
Families within the school community say Rupert's removal comes after an incident at the end of last school year.
As KCRA 3 previously reported , the teacher and her students removed some old carpeting from her classroom that they say had endured a flea infestation.
Parents said Rupert made repeated requests for the district to remove it, but the district didn't , so she
