NORTH CODORUS TOWNSHIP, PA – Three police officers were fatally shot and two others were injured while responding to a report of a domestic disturbance before a gunman killed himself, authorities in York County said Sept. 17.
The shooting occurred in North Codorus Township, a rural area about 10 miles outside of York, Pennsylvania. Radio dispatchers, York City Mayor Michael Helfrich, and other officials described a horrific scene.
Officers were at the scene to follow up on an investigation that was "domestic related," said Col. Christopher Paris, Pennsylvania State Police commissioner, in response to a question from a reporter about what led to the shooting. Paris did not say what agencies the officers belonged to, citing a request from the district attorney's office.
